Nepal Flight Crashes with No Survivors in Tragic Accident on 16 January 2023

A Nepal Airlines flight from Kathmandu to Dhaka crashed on Saturday, January 16, 2023, killing all 81 passengers and crew on board.

The plane, a two-year-old Bombardier Dash 8 Q400, was on its final approach to Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport when it crashed into a field near the runway.

The cause of the crash is not yet known. Nepal Airlines said in a statement that the aircraft was carrying 71 passengers, including two infants, and a crew of 10. The airline said it was working with authorities in both countries to investigate the cause of the crash and provide assistance to the families of the victims.

The crash is the latest in a string of aviation disasters in Nepal in recent years. In 2019, a US-Bangla Airlines flight from Kathmandu crashed shortly after takeoff, killing all 51 people on board.

In 2018, a Summit Air plane crashed while taking off from Kathmandu, killing all three crew members. The Nepal government has ordered an investigation into the latest crash. Authorities are expected to release the results in the coming weeks.
